The big bowl of individually wrapped mini chocolates sat by our door, hardly touched, taunting us. I just wanted one. For all my fellow healthy eaters on Halloween, I feel your pain. This was a rough one. It didn’t get any better later in the week when we walked into Red Robin and saw smore’s sweet potato fries on the menu–we had to physically put down the menu and push it away so we didn’t oggle. There’s something about the flavors of fall in November that are impossible to resist. But resist we did! This week has been a success.
Day 8: It was Halloween. The candy fall was inevitable. But we didn’t touch a bite!! Goodness, those bit sized Twix we were handing out were so tempting because it’s just one bite but then one bite turns into 2 and then 4 and then 17 and all of a sudden we’ve blown our program. What made it even more difficult was a poorly planned trip into town which ended up with us missing most of the trick or treating and leaving us with gobs of leftover sugar. Early in the afternoon, we had headed from the PX on base looking for black printer ink but of course, there was none, and after a trip to the commissary for much needed La Croix we headed even farther into town to check to Walmart. Thankfully, we found what we were looking for there, but not until three hours after we had left the house. One thing that stinks about our new area: it takes over half an hour just to get to Walmart. I miss the days we had four grocery stores and a hardware store within a stone’s throw of us. Because of being out all evening and my husband’s general exhaustion from having to PT twice with the Marine Corps we didn’t do our workout…
Day 9: …Which meant that today I got to do two workouts! The first I did at home on my own and I realized that I’ve always mostly enjoyed the 21 Day Fix workouts because I get to do them with my best friend, and doing anything with your bestie is better. Because of my husband’s new two a day workouts at work, it’s extremely difficult for him to come home and do yet a third workout, but he knows how important this program is to me so he pushed himself through it and we even had fun doing it together. My son finally learned how to walk (rather than push himself somewhat pitifully) around in his walker and he is now so fast I will walk into the bedroom to grab something and I will come out and he will be lost in some other part of the house. I guess I got in three workouts today!
Day 10: After the last two crazy evenings, I wanted to catch a break so I did my workout before the hubs came home. I knew he had every intention of doing it with me in the evening but I felt like someone had to have mercy on that poor soul as the Marine Corps clearly doesn’t have mercy in their vocabulary. Let me just say this: Cardio Fix by myself felt sad and lonely, but I did push myself harder than I usually do and boy, it left me sore. My son has now also mastered the army crawl. He loves to grab at my Bible while I’m doing my devotions, so I placed my Bible on the far side of the sofa and left him on his belly to get him his own kid’s Bible, but by the time I came back (16 whole seconds) he had scooted all the way across my very large sectional and was trying to eat 1st Samuel.
Day 11: These businesses sure keep me busy. Thankfully, I saved my workout for the evening when I had a little more time and my half dead husband sat on the sofa and watched as I killed myself doing pilates. I did feel much better afterwards, but there was more than one point where I wanted to give up and die.
Day 12: We knew I would have very limited time today due to leaving for a business trip in South Carolina so we switched today and day 3, meaning today was the quick fix for abs! Ten minutes does not seem like much thinking about it but it certainly feels like a long time when you don’t get even half a second of rest in the middle. The husband deserves a break after how hard he works all day so even though his activity mainly consisted of alternating between flailing his extremities and going limp I gave him a break and pretended his workout was legitimate.
Day 13: I had every intent to do my workout today after I returned from my business trip in South Carolina, but my husband needed some loving so we went on a date to Red Robins instead. Looking at the menu, I immediately regretted going because there obviously was not going to be an option for 2 veges and 2 proteins. Then I flipped all the way to the back on the menu where Red Robins has a page that lets you customize any meal by turning it into a lettuce wrap or choosing a low calorie sauce or switching out fries for a salad. As much as I wanted those fries, I made all my healthy switches and thoroughly enjoyed our date. If you’re willing to customize, eating out can totally be healthy!
Day 15: After a long week of workouts, all the stretching in yoga felt amazing. My son happened to need a lot of attention during this time so we put him on our yoga mats and let him grab at us while we did the cat and cow.
That’s it, folks–the end of week 2. That means we have just seven days left!
