As much as I’ve always wanted to be a mom, I dreaded the idea of leaving the workplace behind. After all, my job was my mental stimulation, my routine, and my friends–I didn’t want to give it up. When I found out I was pregnant with my son, there was no question about it. I knew I wouldn’t be going back to work.
Baby giggles and naps on the sofa and late afternoon walks in the crisp fall air are now parts of our routine that I look forward to daily, but spending all my time at home talking to a baby and then responding for him (he can’t talk, after all) left me feeling somewhat socially deprived. I missed interacting with people and not having to reply for them to continue the conversation. I missed having to work my mind for more than remembering what time my child last ate. Moms use their brains incessantly–as a mom, I never have the opportunity to turn it off–but it wasn’t the mental stimulation I was craving.
Still, I couldn’t bear the idea of missing one moment with my sweet baby. What if that one moment was the first time he rolled over or took his first step or said his first word? So at home I stayed.
I had been throwing around the idea of going back to work for awhile. I considered maybe getting a job part time at a local cafe, but I didn’t want to pay for child care and I certainly didn’t want someone else raising my son.
One day, one of the ladies who had been teaching me about essential oils shared a video with me about the Young Living income opportunity and I was shocked. How was it possible that I could work from home with a product I loved and have the potential to make limitless income? Some ladies I know in this business are making far more than my husband after working for two years. I’ve been working only a few months and my income is already growing.
The thing that sets the Young Living business apart is this: we are sharing a product that we are passionate about and that has changed our lives. We don’t have to work to convince people they need new makeup or nice smelling candles or storage containers because when they see how essential oils have changed how we cook, clean, and use medicine they come to us. Of course, it also takes being intentional about sharing with those we think could benefit from essential oils, but our product sells itself when others see that we are a product of the product.
Baby boys are a lot of work. A lot. My sweet baby is a doll but boy, does he require a lot of attention. It works though. We have the most flexible lifestyle possible with a daddy who often works over 12 hour days and a baby who relies on me to stay alive, and we can live that flexible lifestyle because of my business with Young Living. I don’t have to get time off work to travel, I don’t have to take sick days (because essential oils can make my sickness disappear in hours!) and if I want to take my baby out in the middle of the day to do something nice I darn well can.
If you are going to be running a direct sales business, you had better be passionate about the product because if your product does not excite you, it will be very difficult to excite others. When a single essential oil can instantly stop a cough, how can you not get excited about that? When your husband who has been driving you insane for years with his snoring starts breathing easier and stops snoring, would you not want to tell absolutely everybody? I am passionate about Young Living essential oils because they’ve done so much for our family, and running my own business starts with simply sharing my passion.
Getting started is easy–begin improving your family’s wellness by using essential oils. Young Living offers a beginner’s kit with 11 Everyday Oils and a diffuser and it’s the perfect way to learn how to incorporate oils into everyday life. As you see changes, share with others. It doesn’t have to be in-your-face obnoxious–in fact, if you know of something that can change someone’s health the most loving thing to do is to share it!
Through my Young Living business I have made wonderful friends through my team, started earning a second income to get our family stable and start being crazy generous, retained the ability to stay at home with my baby while working my mind, and developed a new passion for natural living. I really do feel like I have it all–the family, the time, the flexibility, the income, the community. I am so thankful that God has given me this incredible opportunity to bless others simply by sharing.
It doesn’t get any better than this.
Proud of you Emma, it does sound like you have it all together and best of all you’re giving God the glory
